Ewing, NJ -- Seniors Tara Mulligan (Monroe, NY), Gretchen Holoubek (Severna Park, MD), and Jessica Tyack (Lake Isabella, CA) all had stellar performances Saturday afternoon as the United States Merchant Marine Academy competed in the New Jersey Invitational on the campus of TCNJ.

More than 600 athletes from over 25 colleges as well as professional and club teams were in attendance including TCNJ, NYU, Monroe Community College, Richard Stockton, Montclair State, and Farmingdale State as well as athletes from New Balance, The Central Park Track Club and Shore Athletic Club.

Mulligan started the day off with an overall meet victory in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 41.08m (134'9"), outpacing runner-up Bree Hudik of Richard Stockton by a full 8'9".

Holoubek followed up with a pair of monster performances in the 3000m and 800m, setting two new personal highs and smashing the academy record in the 3000m by over 25 seconds.  Her time of 10:38.83 in the 3000m was good for ninth overall at the meet; besting the mark previously set by Samantha Skeens '05 in a field that was loaded with talent and won by Melissa Salerno, a professional athlete sponsored by New Balance.

Freshman Anya Hovanic ran a 11:08.43 3000m, a mere five seconds off the previous academy record that Holoubek broke in the same race.

In the 800m, Holoubek ran equally well, with a mark of 2:25.78 narrowly missing the mark held by Anna Maly '93 set back in 1992.  Her mark was good for 10th place overall in a race which was also won by Salerno.

Sophomore Amber Kinter also ran the 800m, making her season debut with a time of 2:43.12, while freshman Emily Bull (Glen Rock, PA) set a new personal best mark of 2:53.40.

Tyack broke a USMMA record of his own with a Triple Jump of 10.76m (35'4"), placing third overall in the meet.  The record she took down has stood for 23 years and was previously held by the aforementioned All-American Ana Maly '93.

In the 400m, Tyack nearly grabbed another one of Maly's records, running a lifetime best of 62.63s, winning her heat in dominating fashion, and placing 11th overall at the meet.

Freshman Kate Stanislaw (West Lawn, PA) also ran the 400m, with a season best time of 68.42s.

Other notable results included freshman Jen Perkins (North Attleboro, MA) breaking her personal best Javelin Throw record by a full three meters with a distance of 26.31m (86'4") to place seventh overall and sophomore Michelle Danhoff (Berlington, WI) placed 15th in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 55.16s in her first time running the event this season.

The 4x100m relay team of Danhoff, Tyack, Perkins, and Stanislaw also finished seventh overall, with a time of 55.16s.

"This was another great day for the squad," said Head Coach Greg Lott.  "The women are bringing it every week; it's fun to watch!"

Next week Merchant Marine will be heading to Bethlehem, PA for the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian College.
