More For The Record Books

With the bulk of the team competing at the Dickinson College DuCharme Invitational on Saturday, JR Tara Mulligan got things started off for the Mariners this past weekend competing in the Weight Throw at the Widener University Field Meet on Friday 2/3. Mulligan threw for yet another Academy Record with a mark of 12.67m. Mulligan now holds the Top 5 throws All-time at the Academy and seven of the top ten throws.

The ladies continued their success the following day at Dickinson College going against some strong competition in Dickinson College, Gettysburg College, Messiah College, Lebanon Valley College, McDaniel College, Hood College, CCNY, Shenandoah University, Stevenson College, Haggerstown Community College, Falls Road Running Club and Landmark Conference foes, The Catholic University, Goucher College and Juniata College.

The 4 x 1600m relay team consisting of SR Lauren Rattan, FR Amber Kinter, FR Ellie Coulter and SO Katie Miller smashed the Academy Record, dropping over two minutes off the previous mark. The ladies all ran great splits (three of them ran their fastest 1600m ever) and finished in a time of 24:36.36.

The day was filled with other strong performances and personal best marks. Sr. Renee Hogan dropped another nine seconds off her personal best mark in the 5000m. Her second straight competition with a lifetime best was finished with a time of 22:12.86. FR Michelle Danhoff (pictured right) had a solid all-around performance. She improved her personal best mark in the 55m Hurdles running a 10.56. In her debut in the long jump she marked 4.26m. Michelle also ran a fast opening leg of the 4x400m relay to help the Mariners to their fastest time of the season in that event and the #2 all-time mark at the Academy. Danhoff was joined in the event by Hogan, SR Kim Glore and SO Chelsea Tapper as they finished in a time of 4:56.52.

SR Lauren Rattan represented USMMA well running in the 300m and 800m. Rattan finished in 6th place overall in the 300m with a time of 47.96, narrowly missing her own Academy Record in the event. In the 800m Rattan came across the line 7th overall with a time of 2:33.41. FR Amber Kinter was right behind Rattan in the 300m with the 3rd best time in Academy History of 48.82.

USMMA women have now broken 12 Academy Records in only four indoor meets this season. They will be in action next Sunday at Susquehanna University.
