Skyline Recognizes Breidenthal & Lou, While ECAC Honors Fentress & Lou

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 21 2017) – On Monday, the Skyline Conference announced that USMMA junior Hallie Breidenthal (Overland Park, Kan.) and freshman Erica Lou (Flushing, N.Y.) swept the league's weekly women's swimming honors of Swimmer of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Additionally, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced on Tuesday that Lou was named the DIII Metro Rookie of the Week and senior Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) earned DIII Metro Diver of the Week accolades.
 
Breidenthal won all three of her events in her first meet this season, a 179-99 home win over Mount St. Mary on Saturday – the Knights' first Skyline dual meet loss since 2008-09, breaking a streak of 46-straight wins. She was a member of the 200 medley relay team that touched first in 1:55.12, and individually triumphed in the 50 free (25.80) and the 100 free (56.47).
 
Lou was victorious in all seven of her races this past week in a pair of team wins over Hunter and Mount St. Mary. Against Hunter on Tuesday, she was a member of the in 400 MR squad that won in 4:20.75. She also placed first in the 200 individual medley (2:27.53) and the 100 fly (1:02.96). Against the Knights on Saturday, she was a member of the 200 MR (1:55.12) and won the 100 backstroke (1:03.22), the 200 back (2:18.43) and the 200 individual medley (2:21.49).
 
Fentress broke the USMMA program record for the one-meter dive (11 dives) event with a score of 475.225 in a diving matchup against NYU on Friday night. Both that score and her mark in the 3-meter dive (six dives) of 275.93 were both NCAA qualifying scores. In a Skyline Conference dual win over Mount St. Mary on Saturday, the senior helped the Mariners defeat the Knights by coming in first place in both the one-meter dive (239.78) and the three-meter dive events (269.10).

This weekend, the Mariners will take part in the Skyline Conference Championship Meet. The swimmers will travel to Purchase College for the two-day championship event beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday night and continuing on Saturday, while the divers will compete in a non-scoring championship event at the O'Hara Hall Pool on Friday night, also beginning at 6 p.m. The diving competition will be live video-streamed on the USMMA Sports Network and is accessible by clicking here.
