KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 21 2017) – The USMMA women's diving team took on NYU in a home event on Friday night at the O'Hara Hall Pool. Then on Saturday, the swimmers joined the divers to defeat Skyline Conference opponent Mount St. Mary at home, 179-99, to finish the regular season with a perfect 7-0 record in league action.

On Friday night, two Mariners recorded NCAA qualifying scores - senior Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) in the one-meter dive (11 dives) with a score of 475.225 - which is a new Academy record - and in the three-meter dive (six dives) with a 275.93 and sophomore Kara Korengel (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the one-meter dive (11 dives) with a score of 436.485.

Saturday's win over the Knights was Mount St. Mary's first conference dual meet loss since the 2008-09 season, as the Mariners snapped their 46-meet Skyline win streak. Fentress won both the one- and three-meter boards with scores of 239.78 and 269.10, respectively. Her mark in the three-meter dive was an NCAA qualifier.

Two Mariners earned a team-best four wins each in the meet – freshman Erica Lou (Flushing, N.Y.) and junior Hallie Breidenthal (Overland Park, Kan.). They were both members of the 200 medley relay squad that led off the day with a victory in 1:55.12.

Individually, Lou won the 100 backstroke (1:03.22), the 200 backstroke (2:18.43) and the 200 individual medley (2:21.49). Breidenthal touched first in the 50 free (25.80), the 100 free (56.47) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.47).

Up next, the Mariners will compete in the 2017 Skyline Conference Championship Meet next weekend. The two-day event begins on Friday, Jan. 27. The swim portion of the championships will take place at Purchase College and will wrap up on Saturday, while the separate, non-scoring diving event will be hosted by USMMA on Friday, beginning at 4 p.m.
