Fentress & Gathy Earn ECAC Weekly Honors; Gathy & Sherrill Garner Accolades From Skyline

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 17, 2017) – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its athletes of the week for women's swimming & diving on Tuesday and USMMA senior Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) earned DIII Metro Diver of the Week accolades, while freshman Meika Gathy (Waterford, Conn.) was named the Rookie of the Week. Additionally, the Skyline Conference announced on Monday that Gathy was its Rookie of the Week and sophomore Ella Sherrill (Ketchikan, Alaska) was named to the weekly honor roll.
 
Fentress set a new Merchant Marine and Roland Pool (Coast Guard) record in the one-meter dive with an NCAA qualifying score of 290.85. She finished in first place in both the one-meter and the three-meter events against the Bears. Earlier in the week, she won both boards in a Skyline tri-meet, recording an NCAA qualifying score in the one-meter (255.38).
 
Gathy posted strong times in the distance freestyle swims during dual-meet competition for the Mariners at Coast Guard on Saturday, included in her performances: 2:03.59 in 200 freestyle, 5:31.76 in 500 freestyle and 11:14.62 in 1,000 freestyle, the last of which she touched first in.
 
Sherrill won all three of her races in a Skyline tri-meet against Mount Saint Vincent and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn last Tuesday, and swam to a 57.37 time in the 100 Free against Coast Guard.

The Mariners are back in action tonight when the swim team travels into Manhattan to take on Hunter College in a non-conference dual meet. First event is slated for 6 p.m. at the Hawks' North Campus Pool.
