EWING, N.J. (Dec. 4, 2016) – The USMMA women's swimming & diving team placed third out of seven teams at The College of New Jersey's Lions Invite this weekend. All other teams at the event were shaved, tapered and rested, while the Mariners were fresh out of the weight room and not tapered or shaved.
Senior diver Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) recorded her second NCAA Qualifying Mark in the one meter dive (11 dives) event and has officially qualified to dive at the NCAA Regionals in February. She placed second in that event and was third in the three meter dive (11 dives).
Sophomore Tyler Wickesberg (Albuquerque, N.M.) also had a third place finish in the 100 backstroke event. The Mariners had three fourth-place finishes on the day, as the 400 free relay team placed fourth and, individually, junior diver Briana Buderus (Flower Mound, Texas) came in fourth in the three meter dive (11 dives) and sophomore diver Kara Korengel (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed fourth in the one meter dive (11 dives) event.
Complete results from the event are not yet available from TCNJ, but all of USMMA's places over the three-day competition are available at this link.
Up next, the Mariners will travel out to Patchogue, N.Y., this Friday, Dec. 9, to take on Skyline opponents Old Westbury and St. Joseph's (L.I.) in a conference tri-meet. Action is set to get underway at 6 p.m. at the Eagles' Danzi Athletic Center Pool.
