Friday's Complete Results

GERMANTOWN, Md. (Feb. 12, 2016) – The USMMA women's swimming & diving team completed the first day of the 2016 Landmark Championship Meet on Friday and crowned one Conference Champion, as junior Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) won the three-meter dive event. Fentress and a number of other Mariner were named to the All-Landmark Teams, while some conference, meet and Academy records fell throughout the day.

During the afternoon diving preliminaries, Fentress recorded a score of 407.60 in the three-meter dive, which was a new Academy, meet and conference record. She earned the first-place finish in the finals with a score of 407.20.

The Academy's 200 individually medley record fell twice on Friday, as sophomore Liz Grove (Winchester, Va.) set a new mark in the morning prelims with a time of 2:12.72. Grove (second in prelims) and junior Jolyn Green (Riverside, Calif.) (third in prelims) both qualified for the A-Finals, and in the evening Green broke Grove's record with a 2:11.28, which was good for second place. Green previously held the record in the event back in 2014.

Freshman Tyler Wickesberg (Albuquerque, N.M.) broke the Academy's 100 backstroke record while leading off the 400 medley relay, as she touched the pad in 58.12. Wickesberg and the squad finished in third place in the 400MR.

The 200 free relay squad of freshman Ella Sherrill (Ketchikan, Alaska), Wickesberg, Green and Grove set a new Academy record with a time of 1:40.69 in the first women's event of the night session, as the Mariners came in third place.

Earning top-eight finishes in individual swimming events ("A-Finalists") were Green (second) and Grove (fifth) in the 200IM and Sherrill in the 50 free (eight place in 25.58). Fentress earned First Team All-Landmark with the first-place finish in the 3M Dive. Freshman Kara Korengel (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up a Second Team All-Conference accolade for her second-place finish in the three-meter dive (334.00).

Also helping to pick up a bulk of team points for the Mariners on the night were the remaining divers, sophomore  Briana Buderus (Flower Mound, Texas) and freshman Danielle Christmas (Tavernier, Fla.). Buderus finished in fourth with a score of 251.10, while Christmas was sixth with a 172.70.

The Mariners currently sit in third place out of the eight teams competing in the championship meet. They have 171 points and are behind current leader Susquehanna (278) and second-place Catholic (174). Below are the complete USMMA women's results from Friday.
