KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 16, 2016) – On Saturday, the women's swimming & diving team lost a tough match, 193-106, to arch-rival Coast Guard on Senior Day. The loss was the Mariners' first of the season, dropping their record to 5-1, while the Bears improve to 2-5.
Freshman Tyler Wickesberg (Albuquerque, N.M.) won two matches on the afternoon. Her wins came in the 100-back (59.17) and the 200-back (2:11.90). Wickesberg almost had a third first-place finish, but came up just short in the 100-fly by 15-hundredths of a second. Junior Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) won both the one-meter dive and the three-meter dive competitions with scores of 241.73 and 278.03. The score in the three-meter dive was a new personal best for Fentress.
Other notable races were freshman Pamela Grod (Northbrook, Ill.) in the 100-free (58.22) and sophomore Rebecca Slezak (Middle River, Md.) in the 1,000-free (12:47.53), the 500-free (6:21.51) and the 200 fly (2:54.27) – all three times were season-bests for Slezak.
This was last time senior Elizabeth Rose (Hamilton, Ohio) competed at a home meet at the O'Hara Hall Pool. She was honored before the meet with a special Senior Day Ceremony.
The Mariners return to action Saturday, Jan. 23, when they travel to Scranton, Pa., to take on Landmark Conference rival Marywood beginning at 1 p.m.
