The USMMA women's swimming and diving team opened the season Saturday afternoon at the annual USMMA Invitational. Alexandra Biehn (Burnsville, MN) was named the Mariner of the Meet after a great swim in the 400 IM. The senior posted a time of 5:18.37 and also took sixth place in the 500 freestyle.
"We had a solid day in the pool," said Head Coach Sean Tedesco. "It was great to have our entire team back and in the water and I look forward to more meets in the coming weeks."
Freshman Alyssa Fentress (Denton, TX) finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events in her first collegiate competition. Classmate Jolyn Green (Riverside, CA) took gold in the 200 breaststroke as she hit the wall in 2:36.15. Catherine Don (Quincy, FL) secured a new lifetime best time of 5:45.18 in the 500 freestyle.
Nina Demet (Lake Forest, IL) notched the Mariners fastest time of the day in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 26.56 seconds. Helen Deal (Palmer, AK) had strong races in the 50 and 100 freestyle, hitting the wall in 28.08 and 1:02.38, respectively. Susanne Dannessa (Cleveland, OH) dropped time in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Emily Olsen (Glenwood, NJ) had solid performances in the 100 breststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM.
The USMMA women's swimming and diving team returns to the pool December 6-8 at the TCNJ Invitational.
