Women's Swimming and Diving Opens Season with Strong Outing at USMMA Invitational
Kings Point, NY - The women's swimming and diving team started the 2012-13 season Saturday afternoon at the USMMA Inviational, which also included Queens, Southern Connecticut State, Bridgeport, Adelphi, and Maritime (NY). Jacqueline White (Oradell, NJ), Emily Boyson (Garland, TX), and Helen Deal (Hereford, AZ) all had superb days in the pool.
White captured first place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.11, beating out her nearest competitor by over two seconds. She also came in third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.56) and fourth in the 200 yard backstroke (2:17.75). White also combined with Boyson, Colleen Lindgren (Palm City, FL), and Emily Olsen (Glenwood, NJ) on a 200 yard medley relay squad that took third place with a time of 2:02.72.
"Jackie had an outstanding day, especially considering she just got back from sea," said head coach Sean Tedesco. "She is already on pace with her times from this time last year, I am extremely happy with her performance today."
Boyson also won an individual event, taking home first place in the 200 yard breaststroke by clocking in at 2:38.83. She also captured third place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.66.
Deal set two lifetime bests on Saturday afternoon in the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle events. Her time of 28.07 put her 13th in the 50 yard while she posted a mark of 1:01.48 in the 100 yard event.
The women's swimming and diving team returns to action November 30 - December 2 at the TCNJ Invitational.
