Before USMMA: Hovanic was a four year letterwinner in swimming at Ramstein High School.  She served as team captain in her junior and senior seasons as well as twice being named team MVP.  Hovanic qualified for the EFSL Championship for three straight seasons and finished second in the 100 freestyle race in the Girls 17-19 division.  Academically, she is a member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society while graduating with high honors.
