Merchant Marine women swimmers take Division I Manhattan to last event in 107-94 loss

MANHATTAN – Alexandra Biehn won a pair of freestyle swimming events as the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's swimming team opened its dual meet season with a 107-94 loss at Manhattan College on Saturday.

The meet was decided on the last race of the day as the Jaspers defeated the Mariners (0-1) in the 200-yard freestyle relay by 2.04 seconds. Manhattan was clocked in 1:47.73.

Manhattan is an NCAA Division I school while the Mariners compete at the NCAA Division III level.

Biehn captured the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:43.96 and went on to win the 500-yard freestyle in 5:42.01.

Jacky White took first-place honors in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.47.

Emily Boyson and Casey Moore finished one-two in the 100-yard backstroke. Boyson was timed in 1:12.51, followed by Moore's 1:14.48.

The Mariners host Queens College Monday at 6 p.m. and Lehman College Tuesday at 6 p.m.
