Women swimmers, divers go fourth in Landmark pre-season coaches poll
KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's swimming and diving team was ranked fourth in the annual pre-season poll of head coaches in the Landmark Conference.
The Mariners, who accrued 45 points, finished in fourth place at last year's conference meet, I'ts a best showing.
All four of Kings Point's all-Conference finishers last season were freshmen or sophomores, led by divers Kathryn Schmidt and Lynae Harvey.
"We are happy that the women are seeded fourth in the pre-season poll," Mariners coach Sean Tedesco said. "However, we will be striving to move up in teh tough Landmark Conference environment."
Defending conference champion Susquehanna University was selected to repeat as it received 73 points. The University of Scranton, which earned the first three Landmark crowns, and Catholic University, were tied for second place with 68 points apiece.
Drew University (35) was fifth, followed by Juniata (29), Marywood University (27), which joins the conference as an affiliate member this year, and Goucher College (19).
The Landmark season has already begun for most of the eight women's programs with the rest to begin by Nov. 20. The Landmark Championships will be held at Marywood in Scranton, Pa. Feb. 10-12.
