BRISTOL R.I. (Nov. 11, 2017) – The USMMA wrestling team opened the 2017-18 season on Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational. The Mariners had two seniors and a good number of freshmen compete at the event and came in 10th place with 36.5 points on the day.
The team's highest finish of the day came at the 157-pound weight class, where freshman Kieran Duggan (Woodbury, Conn.) placed third in the bracket with a 5-1 record. Duggan picked up two wins via technical falls, including one over D3Wrestle.com's nationally-ranked wrestler junior Thomas Grippi of Johnson & Wales in the consolation finals.
Freshman Gavin Bradley (Woodbury, Minn.) finished the day with three victories at 165, while three other Mariner freshmen all had two wins apiece in their respective brackets – Alex Puglio (Myerstown, Pa.) at 141, Samuel Buck (New Castle, Ind.) at 165 and Andrew French (Afton, Minn.) at 197.

Up next, the Mariners will take part in the New York State Championships up at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., next Sunday, Nov. 19.
