ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Jan. 29, 2017) – The USMMA wrestling team competed at the 23rd Annual All-Academy Championships, hosted by the United States Naval Academy. The Mariners placed seventh in the field of mostly Division I institutions.

Sophomore Blake Bunce (Trophy Club, Texas) led Merchant Marine with a fourth-place finish at 197 with a 2-2 record, including a victory over a Division I wrestler. He dropped his first bout of the season in the opening round against The Citadel's Sawyer Root, but rebounded to win his first two matches in the wrestleback bracket over Norwich's David Rogers (pin in 4:28) and Army's Chris Morgan (3-1 decision) to reach the third-place bout, where he lost to Root once again. Bunce now has a 12-2 record on the season, but is a perfect 11-0 against Division III opponents.

Also picking up victories in the wrestlebacks on the day were sophomore Tyler Craig (Snowhegan, Maine) in the 133 bracket and Victor Raigoza (Orland, Calif.) in the heavyweight bracket.
