Centennial Selects Rooney As Wrestler Of The Week

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 15, 2016) – The Centennial Conference announced on Monday that USMMA senior Patrick Rooney (Belgrade, Minn.) has been named the league's Wrestler of the Week after his performance at the Roger Williams Invitational this past Saturday.

Rooney was named the RW Invite's Most Outstanding Wrestler after he took first place in the 184-pound bracket. The bracket featured three nationally-ranked wrestlers. Rooney won his first bout via a pin and then won three straight decisions to take the title. In the semifinals, he defeated Ben Swarr of Messiah, who was last year's National Champion at 174, by an exciting buzzer-beating 10-8 decision with a last-second takedown. Rooney then earned a 5-0 decision over Messiah's Victor DeFrance in the first-place match.
