Seven Wrestlers Still Vying For Spots In Nationals After Day One Of NCAA East Regionals

LEXINGTON, Va. (Feb. 27, 2016) – The USMMA men's wrestling team has seven wrestlers remaining to battle for qualifying spots into the NCAA Tournament after the first day of the East Regionals on Saturday, hosted by Washington & Lee.

Senior Ricky Fisher (Nashville, Tenn.) at 197 and junior Nathan Twito (Ames, Iowa) at 149 both went undefeated with 2-0 records on the day and are in the semifinals of their respective brackets.

Fisher won a major decision in his first match of the day over Mark Papish of NYU, 13-4, and then earned a 5-0 decision over Ferrum's Adam Bresson in the quarterfinals. For Twito it was a pair of decision that got him into the semis – a narrow 4-2 victory over Nicholas Matthews from NYU and an 8-3 win over Gettysburg's Quinn Merrigan.

Battling in the wrestle-backs for third place finishes in their brackets are senior Mike Mui (Hingham, Mass.) at 125, freshman Erik Beshada (South River, N.J.) at 157, senior Mike Maye (Pearl River, N.Y.) at 165, freshman Blake Bunce (Trophy Club, Texas) at 184 and freshman Brandon Joest (Kendallville, Ind.) at 285.
