Mariners Invited To Wrestle At Highly-Selective NWCA National Duals In Three Weeks

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 16, 2015) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team has been invited to compete in the 2016 NWCA National Duals, which will be held Jan. 8-9 at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Mariners are one of just 24 Division III programs that were invited to compete at the prestigious "Mat Mayhem" event. This is the first time in program history that the USMMA squad will compete in this highly-selective national event.

"We are very excited to have the opportunity to represent the Merchant Marine Academy at the NWCA National Duals," commented Merchant Marine eighth-year head coach Greg Ilaria. "It will be a very competitive event and should be a great experience for our wrestlers."

Merchant Marine will join Centennial Conference opponent NYU and arch-rival Coast Guard at the event. The Mariners are guaranteed at least three matches over the weekend and, depending on their performances, will have a chance to compete for the National Duals Championship.

The event is a multi-divisional competition that includes the best NCAA Division II, III, NAIA and NJCAA men's and women's teams in the nation.
