Schott Advances to NCAA Tourney, Mariners Place Fifth

The United States Merchant Marine Academy finished fifth in the Centennial Conference Championships (fourth in conference duals for the season) this past weekend at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Johns Hopkins University, who the Mariners defeated at a dual meet on February 12th, won the Conference Championship with an overall score of 79.  Ursinus College placed second with 73.5, Stevens Institute of Technology finished third with a score of 64.5, Gettysburg College placed fourth scoring 53.5, and Kings Point rounded out the top five tallying 48 points. 

Senior captain Erik Schott (184) (pictured 2nd from right) won the Centennial Conference tournament to advance to nationals.  Senior Kyle Diesel (174) placed third defeating the #9 ranked wrestler in the country, NYU's Greg Martini.  Senior Martin Bell (149) also placed third, while sophomores Tyler Russell (197) and Josh Miller (165) each placed fourth.

Schott will be competing in the NCAA tournament in Wisconsin Lacrosse on March 9th and 10th.  Last season, the Mariners finished 8th in the NCAA tournament with 2 All Americans and a National Champion.
