• Memorable 2017-18 Athletic Season Celebrated At Awards Convocation Friday; Moore And Pope Take Home Top Honors

    The United States Merchant Marine Academy held its 2018 Awards Convocation on Friday morning at the Ackerman Auditorium as part of Kings Point Weekend festivities, which culminates with commencement exercises on Saturday. Four major athletic award winners were announced during the ceremony – the Male and Female Athletes of the Year as well as the two Coaches of the Year – along with a number of other athletic awards and honors.
  • Ten Mariners Named To Skyline Winter & Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The Skyline Conference recently announced that a total of 92 student-athletes have been selected to the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Teams for the 2017-18 Winter and 2018 Spring seasons. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy had 10 student-athletes – one from each team that participates in the Skyline Conference – honored on the list.

    On Thursday, two organizations announced their Division III women’s lacrosse postseason awards – the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) revealed its All-ECAC Teams and the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) unveiled the All-Region Teams. Three different Mariners were recognized, as junior Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) earned First Team All-ECAC honors, while classmate Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.) and senior Rebecca Bessler (Kent, Wash.) were selected to the Second Team All-ECAC. Additionally, Reilly earned a spot on the IWLCA Boardwalk Region Second Team.
  • Mariners’ Memorable Season Concludes In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

    The USMMA women’s lacrosse team had its most successful campaign in program history come to an end with a tough 20-9 loss to Meredith College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium on the campus of Salisbury University. In defeat, the Mariners end the season with a 14-3 record, while the Avenging Angles improve to 16-4 and advance to the NCAA Second Round to take on hosts #2 Salisbury.

    The Skyline Conference on Monday announced the postseason awards and All-Conference Teams for the 2018 women’s lacrosse season and a total of six Mariners were honored, including two major award winners, and sixth-year head coach Kyle Simensky was selected as the Skyline Coach of the Year. Junior Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) earned Offensive Player of the Year honors, while classmate Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.) garnered Defensive Player of the Year accolades.

    The top-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team cruised over visiting #4 seed Mount St. Mary, 16-1, on Wednesday evening at Brooks Stadium in the semifinals of the 2018 Skyline Conference Championships. The Mariners tenth-straight victory improved their record to 12-2, and advances the Mariners to the Skyline Championship Game this Saturday, May 5, while the Knights ended the season at 7-8.

    The Skyline Conference announced on Tuesday morning that USMMA junior Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.) was named the league’s Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending April 22. This is the second-straight week that Reilly has earned this honor and the fifth time this season she was recognized by the Skyline (weekly honor roll on March 12, March 26 and April 2).

With the win, the Mariners have qualified for postseason play for the first time in program history, clinching a spot in the upcoming Skyline Tournament. They improve to 10-2 (5-0 Skyline), while the Golden Eagles fall to 5-7 (3-2 Skyline).

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-3 victory over rival SUNY Maritime Wednesday evening at Brooks Stadium. The Mariners improved to 9-2 (4-0 Skyline) after their sixth-straight victory, while the Privateers dropped to 3-8 (1-5 Skyline). The nine wins is a new program record, besting the mark of eight set by the Mariners back in 2016.
