Gizzi Selected To First Team All-Skyline; McHugh And Parker Land On Second Team

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (May 9, 2017) – On Tuesday, the Skyline Conference announced the 2017 Women's Lacrosse Postseason Awards and All-Conference Teams and USMMA was well represented with three student-athletes recognized. Sophomore goalie Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.) was named to the All-Skyline First Team, while freshmen Grace McHugh (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Angela Parker (Bowie, Md.) both earned spots on the Second Team.
 
This is the second-straight season that Gizzi was selected to an All-Conference Team, as she was on the Second Team All-Landmark after her freshman season in 2016. Gizzi currently ranks second in the Skyline Conference in three categories – goals against average (10.17), save percentage (.492) and groundballs per game (3.17). She comes in at third in the league in two categories with 9.83 saves per game and 1.83 caused turnovers per game.
 
McHugh led the Mariners with 60 points, 43 goals and 17 assists on the season. Her 26 draw controls won were good for second on the team and her 30 groundballs ranked third. The rookie ranked fourth among all Skyline players with 5.00 points per game and 3.58 goals per game, while her 1.42 assists per game placed her fifth in the league. She recorded three or more goals nine times out of the 12 games this season and registered five games with five or more points including two with a career-high nine points and one with seven. McHugh was a two-time Skyline Rookie of the Week throughout the season.
 
Parker was third on the team with 27 points and 20 goals, while her seven assists were second on the Mariners. She also led the squad with 61 draw controls and ranked second with 30 groundballs and 20 caused turnovers. Among Skyline players, was third in the league with 5.08 draw controls per game, eighth with 1.67 caused turnovers per game and ninth with 2.50 groundballs per game. She was a one-time Skyline Rookie of the Week during the season (April 3).

Gizzi, McHugh and Parker led the Mariners to a five-win season in 2017, the program's first in the Skyline Conference, including an exciting 12-11 road victory at arch-rival Coast Guard. Merchant Marine recorded its first ever conference win during the season and ended the year with three victories over Skyline opponents.
