Willard & McHugh Sweep Skyline Weekly WLAX Awards

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 14, 2017) – The Skyline Conference announced late Monday that USMMA sophomore Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) and freshman Grace McHugh (Sturbridge, Mass.) swept the league's weekly honors for women's lacrosse. Willard was selected as the Player of the Week and McHugh earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

The honors come after the duo helped the Mariners defeat Johnson State, 21-1, at home on Sunday. The 21 goals scored in the season-opener set a new program record for goals in a game.

Willard started the season off on the right foot with seven points in the victory. The sophomore scored four times and dished out three assists. She also added three ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control to her stat line as well in the win.

In her first career contest, McHugh tied the USMMA program record for points in a game with nine. She scored six times and added three assists, while also grabbing two draw controls and one groundball with one caused turnover.
