Women's Lacrosse Falls At Home To Catholic Saturday In Landmark Action

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 23, 2016) – The USMMA women's lacrosse team lost a Landmark Conference contest to visiting Catholic, 21-2, on Saturday afternoon at Brooks Stadium. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 6-5 (0-5 Landmark), while the Cardinals improve to 8-7 (5-0 Landmark).

Freshman Lexi Ibach (Reading, Pa.) scored the first goal for the Mariners at 18:10 of the first half, cutting Catholic's lead to 4-1 at the time.  After the Cardinals found the back of the net six more times over the next 11 minutes, sophomore Madeline Thibeault (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) buried her first goal of the season on a free-position shot at 6:48. CUA scored three more times before the first half ended and took a 13-2 lead into the break.

Freshman goalie Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.) recorded 12 saves in the opening half and finished the afternoon with 14 stops. Gizzi also picked up a game-best four groundballs over the 60 minutes, while freshman Maura Malone (Yorktown, Va.) led the Mariners with two draw controls.

Sophomore Nicolette Crisalli tallied a game-high six goals to lead the Cardinals. Junior Laura Dunn also matched Crisalli in points with three goals and three assists. Junior Allie Bond led all players in the affair with eight draw controls, while Crisalli and junior Clair Schmitzer both recorded a team-best three groundballs each.

In goal, freshman Christina De Cesaris made two saves in the first half of action and recorded the win. Senior Brittnee Frizol and freshman Gabby Cooper split the time in cage during the second half and both made one save.

The Mariners are back in action this Tuesday, April 26, when they travel up to New London, Conn., to take on arch-rival Coast Guard. Opening draw is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Bears' Cadet Memorial Field. Live stats and a live video feed of the game are available by following those links.
