KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 20, 2016) – The USMMA women's lacrosse team reached the 20-goal mark in a single game for the first time in program history during its 20-13 home win over Moravian on Wednesday evening. The Mariners improve to 6-4 on the season, while the Greyhounds fall to 6-7.
Freshman Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.) recorded a career-high eight points as she found the back of the net seven times for the second game in a row, while also dishing out one assist. Reilly led Merchant Marine with four draw controls and also picked up four groundballs. Classmates Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) and Maura Malone (Yorktown, Va.) both contributed mightily to the offense as well – Willard registered seven points on four goals and three assists, while Malone found the back of the net three times with two assists.
Junior A Jordan Pappas (Howell, N.J.) picked up her first career hat trick with three second-half goals. Freshman Elizabeth Livi (Fair Lawn, N.J.) turned out a goal and an assist, while her sister Catherin Livi (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and classmate Lexi Ibach (Reading, Pa.) also scored for the Mariners. Freshman goalie Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.) tied for the game-high with five groundballs and also made 16 saves for her sixth win of the season.
Moravian actually controlled most of the play early on, building up a 3-0 lead over the first 2:25 of the game. The Mariners then took command of the game by scoring the next 11 goals in the next 25 minutes. Malone gave USMMA a 4-3 lead at 15:50 with her second straight goal. The Greyhounds scored the final goal of the half at 1:32, and the Mariners took an 11-4 lead into halftime.
Moravian wasted little time scoring the first goal of the second half just eight seconds in, but USMMA responded with seven of the next 10 goals over the next 17 minutes. However, after Reilly scored her seventh goal at 12:23 to put the Mariners ahead, 18-8, the Greyhounds responded with four straight goals to make it a six-goal game. Merchant Marine finished with two of the final three goals, however, including Pappas' hat trick goal at 2:36.

Freshman Eileen Rolwood scored three goals, dished out one assist and recorded a game-high 10 draw controls, while also tying Gizzi with a game-best five GBs. Four other Moravian players scored one goal each. In net, freshman Kelley Gavin suffered the loss after playing over 34 minutes and allowing 14 goals on 18 shots with four saves.
