MORRISTOWN, N.J. (April 18, 2016) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team won on the road for the first time in program history on Monday afternoon, topping the College of Saint Elizabeth, 19-3, in New Jersey. The Mariners improve to 5-4 on the season with the victory, while the Eagles fall to 1-10.

Three freshmen had multi-point games, as Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) led the way with eight points on three goals and five assists, Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.) scored seven goals and Maura Malone (Yorktown, Va.) found the back of the net four times. Willard's five assists sets a new program single-game record, breaking the previous record of four set by classmate Elizabeth Livi (Fair Lawn, N.J.) back on March 20 in the win over Maine Maritime.

Willard also led all players in the game with nine groundballs, while Reilly and Malone both had seven apiece. Malone registered a game-high six draw controls.

Five other Mariners scored in the one-sided affair – Livi, her twin sister Catherine Livi (Fair Lawn, N.J.), who opened the scoring in the game, junior A Jordan Pappas (Howell, N.J.), senior Breanna Linsley (Henderson, Nev.) and sophomore Maya Lindeman (Davis, Calif.). Linsley's tally late in the second half was the defender's first of her career.

Sophomore Emily Finnin (Littleton, Colo.) and freshman Lexi Ibach (Reading, Pa.) both contributed to the offense with an assist apiece. Four Mariners tied for the game-high with two caused turnovers each – Finnin, Reilly, Malone and sophomore Madeline Thibeault (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.). In goal, freshman Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.) recorded two saves for the victory.

For Saint Elizabeth, Ashley Morera recorded a team-best three points on two goals and an assist. Senior Riley Hosey had the other goal for the Eagles and sophomore goalie Maria Trujillo suffered the loss despite making nine saves.

The women's lacrosse team is back in action this Wednesday evening, when they host Moravian in a non-conference matchup. Opening draw is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game are available by following those links.
