MADISON, N.J. (April 9, 2016) – The USMMA women's lacrosse team lost on the road in a Landmark Conference contest at Drew University, 18-6, on Saturday afternoon. The Mariners fall to 3-3 (0-3 Landmark) in defeat, while Drew improves to 3-9 (1-2 Landmark).

Freshmen Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) led the way for the Mariners with three goals and two assists, while classmate Maura Malone (Yorktown, Va.) found the back of the net twice and also forced three turnovers for Merchant Marine. Freshman Elizabeth Livi (Fair Lawn, N.J.) scored the Mariners' other goal on the afternoon. Freshman goalie Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.) stopped 16 Drew shots and led all players in the game with eight groundballs.

For Drew, sophomore Maddie Spiess registered a game-high seven points – scoring six goals and adding one assist. Junior Morgan Mason finished the day with six points on five goals and one assist and sophomore Juliana Strazulo contributed four points coming from three goals and an assist. Freshman Miranda Czymek earned the victory in the cage after stopping five of the 11 Mariner shots on goal.

The Rangers started the game clicking on all cylinders, as they took a commanding 9-0 lead with just 2:20 left in the first half and never looked back. The Mariners netted one goal before the half was over.

In the beginning of the second half, the Mariners would inch a little closer, scoring three-straight to make the score 10-4 after the Rangers had opened the half with the first goal. But that was the closest Merchant Marine came in the affair. In the final 23 minutes of the game, Drew would outscore the Mariners 8-2 to claim the 18-6 victory.

The Mariners are back at it this Wednesday, April 13, when they host the Privateers of SUNY Maritime College in the annual "Sound Shootout" contest scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game are available by following those links.
