TOWSON, Md. (March 26, 2016) – The USMMA women's lacrosse team lost on the road in a Landmark Conference contest at Goucher College, 14-4, on Saturday at the Gophers' Beldon Field. The Mariners fall to 2-1 (0-1 Landmark) with the defeat, while Goucher improves to 5-4 (1-0 Landmark).
Freshmen Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) led the way for the Mariners with two goals off of a game-best six shots on goal, while classmates Ellen Carpenter (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.) also found the back of the net for Merchant Marine. Freshman goalie Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.) stopped eight Goucher shots and led all players in the game with seven groundballs. Freshman Maura Malone (Yorktown, Va.) finished with three groundballs and had a game-high five draw controls.
For Goucher, sophomores Jessica Borucki, Jojo Franklin and freshman Kathrina DeMaio led all players with four points apiece. Borucki and DeMaio each had two goals and two assists, while Franklin had a game-high three goals and one assist. Junior Stefi Perry and grad student Megan Meluskey both had three points with Perry scoring once and having two assists and Meluskey finishing with two goals and one assist. Sophomore Bridget Den Boer earned the victory in the cage after stopping eight of the 12 Mariners shots on goal.
The Mariners are back at it this Wednesday, March 30, when they host the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College in a non-conference contest scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game are available by following those links.
