Mariners Suffer 18-4 Setback to Old Westbury

Kings Point, NY - Alexandra Winfree (Millstone, NJ) netted a hat trick but the USMMA women's lacrosse team was defeated 18-4 Tuesday night by Old Westbury.  Sara Bey led the visitors with six goals while Maria Dischley recorded three goals as well as eight draw controls.  Susanne Dannessa (Cleveland, OH) led the USMMA defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Old Westbury (3-9) scored the first eight goals of the game before a Winfree free position shot made it 8-1.  Katie Noonan (Charlottesville, VA) found the back of the net with six seconds remaining the first half to cut the Mariners deficit to 10-2 heading into halftime.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (1-6) committed 17 total turnovers and was outshot by the Panthers, 32-15.  Jackie Cartagena made four saves between the pipes for Old Westbury and held the home side to 2-of-8 on free position shots.  

The USMMA women's lacrosse team returns to action at home Saturday afternoon for a Landmark Conference clash with Elizabethtown.  Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
