Women’s Basketball Rolls Past St. Joseph’s-L.I., 58-37, On The Road Thursday Night

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (Jan. 10, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team defeated Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island, 58-37, Thursday evening at the Golden Eagles' Danzi Center. The Mariners remain unbeaten at 11-0 (7-0 Skyline), while SJC falls to 2-12 (1-7 Skyline) with the loss. 

Junior Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) registered a game-high 19 points while grabbing six boards and knocking down a trio of three-pointers on the night. Freshman Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) recorded her 10th double-double, pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds and posting 16 points. 

Juniors Shelby Peters (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and Taylor Hightower (White Plains, Md.) as well as freshman Julia Dahlke (San Diego, Calif.) all dished out a team-high four assists. Hightower scored nine points and brought down seven boards in the contest, while Dahlke added seven points and four rebounds on the night. 

The Mariners dominated the Golden Eagles on the boards 51-31, while holding them to just 22.6% shooting from the field on the night. 

Senior N'Dea Maddox led St. Joe's with 13 points on the evening to go along with five steals. Junior Juliana Cintron-Leonardo grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and freshman Alyssa Signor chipped in with nine points. 

The Mariners return to action this Saturday, Jan. 12, when they host Mount St. Mary in a key Skyline Conference battle. Tipoff is scheduled for 12-noon at Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Basketball Schedule Page
