KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 10, 2019) – USMMA freshman Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Month for the month of December, the league announced on Thursday. The accolade comes after her performances in the Mariners' six games during the final month of 2018, all victories.
Hunter averaged 19.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game, as she recorded double-doubles in five of the six contests. The rookie also shot at a 58.0% clip from the field (47-for-81) throughout the month. Hunter earned weekly accolades during three-straight weeks from both the Skyline Conference and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.

Through games played on Jan. 7, 2019, the freshman ranked in the Top 20 in the nation among all DIII players in five categories – her 21.8 points per game ranked 13th, her 12.6 rebounds per game ranked 17th, her .596 shooting percentage ranked 13th, her 5.0 offensive rebounds per game ranked ninth and her eight double-doubles ranked 18th.
As a team, the Mariners ranked in the Top 20 in the country in 11 categories listed below.
- First in the nation in scoring defense with just 43.0 points allowed per game
- Tied for first with just six other teams with a perfect 1.000 win percentage.
- Second in rebound margin (+20.1), personal fouls per game (11.8), and field-goal percentage defense allowing opponents just a .396 shooting percentage,
- Third in rebounds per game (52.3), offensive rebounds per game (21.0) and fewest fouls (106)
- Sixth with fewest turnovers (147)
- 14th in scoring margin (+22.4)
- And 16th in defensive rebounds per game (31.0)

The Mariners will travel out to Patchogue, Suffolk County, N.Y., tonight, Jan. 10, for a Skyline showdown with St. Joseph's-Long Island.
