BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Dec. 2, 2018) – On Sunday, the USMMA women's basketball team rolled against non-conference opponent Medgar Evers, 74-37, at the Cougars Cave. The Mariners remain perfect at 4-0, while MEC remains winless at 0-8 with the loss.
Junior Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 20 points, with 16 coming in the first half. D'Arcy grabbed seven boards in the contest to go along with two steals and two blocks. Freshman Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) recorded her fourth-straight double-double, scoring 16 points and snagging a team-best 12 rebounds.
Sophomore Kiana Vega (El Paso, Texas) and junior Taylor Hightower (White Plains, Md.) chipped in up nine points apiece. Hightower, classmate Shelby Peters (El Dorado, Hills, Calif.) and freshman Cadee Fromm (Enid, Okla.) all brought down six rebounds each.
USMMA jumped out to a 12-point lead in the first three minutes of the game, building up a 24-6 advantage to finish the first quarter. The Mariners maintained that lead and outscored the Cougars 26-10 in the second quarter to go into halftime up 50-16.
The Mariners went up by as many as 44 points, holding a 68-25 lead after three. Medgar Evers outscored Merchant Marine, 12-6, in the fourth quarter, but the Mariners already had the game in the bag.
Sophomore Jessycca Meyers led the Cougars with 18 points, while freshman Britny Macintosh hauled down a game-high 16 rebounds.
The Mariners return to action on Thursday night, Dec. 6, when they to travel to Skyline opponent Farmingdale State for a 5:30 p.m. contest. Live links for the game will be available on the USMMA Women's Basketball Schedule Page.
