Mariners Drop Road Skyline Game At Farmingdale, 79-58

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Jan. 31, 2017) - On Tuesday night, the USMMA women's basketball team lost on the road to Farmingdale State, 79-58, in a Skyline Conference affair. The Mariners' record drops to 9-8 (5-7 Skyline), while the Rams improve to 11-7 (9-3 Skyline).

Two Mariners scored in double-figures, as junior Gabrielle Salazar (Memphis, Tenn.) drained 12 points and classmate Samantha Drake (Centereach, N.Y.) recorded 10. Senior Allie Drake (Centereach, N.Y.) brought down a game-high eight rebounds. Three other Mariners added six points apiece - senior Rachel Wehlburg (Herndon, Va.) and freshmen Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) and Shelby Peters (El Dorado Hills, Calif.).

Four of Farmingdale's five starters notched double-digit scoring led by sophomore AJ Smith, who led all players with 16 points. Juniors Kaelyn Ward and Tyra Harrison both contributed 15 points each and classmate Essence Casey chipped in with 12. Casey and fellow junior Liz Durchhalter both recorded a team-best six rebounds each.

Up next, Merchant Marine will host Skyline opponent St. Joseph's of Brooklyn on Thursday night, Feb. 2. Opening tip is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the contest will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Basketball Schedule Page.
