Wehlburg’s Career-Day Leads Mariners Past Purchase, 68-46

PURCHASE, N.Y. (Jan. 28, 2017) – The USMMA women's basketball team snapped a five-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon with a 68-46 victory over Skyline Conference opponent Purchase on the road. The win improves the Mariners' record to 9-7 (5-6 Skyline) on the season, while the Panthers fall to 2-15 (1-11 Skyline) in defeat.
 
Senior Rachel Wehlburg (Herndon, Va.) recorded a career-high 21 points to lead all players in the game, while also bringing down a game-high 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. Freshman Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) contributed 11 points, with senior Allie Drake (Centereach, N.Y.) and junior Gabrielle Salazar (Memphis, Tenn.) both adding eight, the latter off the bench.
 
Frances Minaya and Kayla Ortiz both scored 17 points each to pace the Panthers. Lisa Kentris led the squad on the glass with seven boards.
 
The Mariners are back in action on Tuesday night, Jan. 31, when they travel to Farmingdale State for a Skyline Conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Rams' Nold Hall.
