ALBANY, N.Y. (Jan. 11, 2017) – On Wednesday, the USMMA women's basketball team lost its road, Skyline Conference matchup against Sage, 69-47, at the Gators' Kahl Center. The Mariners fall to 8-4 (4-3 Skyline) on the season in defeat, while the Gators improve to 9-5 (5-2 Skyline) with the win.
Freshman Shelby Peters (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) led the way for Merchant Marine with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while classmate Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) added seven points, five boards and four assists. Two players recorded six points each – senior Kelsey Hofmann (Adel, Iowa) and junior Sarah Milafsky (Aurora, Colo.).
After a close first half where the Mariners trailed by just six points, 33-27, the Gators used a strong third quarter to take control of the game. The hosts outscored USMMA, 25-11, in the frame and held a 20-point lead, 58-38, going into the final quarter.
Three of Sage's five starters scored in double-figures, with sophomore Emily Parslow leading all players in the game with 19 points. Classmate Kaitlyn Bowman added 13 and junior Genevieve Schoff contributed 12 to the victory. Senior Frankie Pearson brought down a team-high eight rebounds, while also scoring nine points.
This Saturday, Jan. 14, the Mariners will have a matchup at home against Skyline opponent Mount St. Mary beginning at 1 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video link of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Basketball Schedule Page.
