OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Dec. 10, 2016) – The USMMA women's basketball team made it four straight victories with a 51-50 road win over Skyline opponent Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. The Mariners improve to 5-2 (3-1 Skyline), while the Panthers fall to 4-2 (1-2 Skyline) with the loss.
Freshman Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) notched a game-high 19 points for the Mariners, while also bringing down a team-best eight rebounds. Junior Gabrielle Salazar (Memphis, Tenn.) drained a career-high 16 points for Merchant Marine off the bench. Both senior Kelsey Hofmann (Adel, Iowa) and junior Myckenzie Toler (Prunedale, Calif.) contributed five points apiece in the victory, while seniors Rachel Wehlburg (Herndon, Va.) and Allie Drake (Centereach, N.Y.) rounded on the Mariner scorers with four and two points, respectively.
The Panthers were led by freshman Tyra Bellings, who recorded 11 points off the bench. Sophomore Charlotte Renker led all players in the game with 12 rebounds to go along with nine points and senior Jasmine Robinson had a game-high five steals with eight points.
Up next, the Mariners host the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels in non-conference action on Tuesday night, Dec. 13. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Basketball Schedule Page.
