Setting the Scene... The USMMA women's basketball team travels to Riverdale, NY Thursday night to square off with Mount St. Vincent. The Mariners are coming off of a 76-24 setback at the hands of Catholic and had a scheduled Tuesday night meeting against Vaughn cancelled. The Dolphins have won two-of-three games but most recently suffered a 66-56 loss to Purchase on Tuesday night.
Series History... Mount St. Vincent leads the all-time series against USMMA, 8-3. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2006-07 season when both programs were members of the Skyline Conference. In that year, the two sides met three times, including a 63-58 victory for the Dolphins in the Skyline Conference Tournament.
Conference Rankings... Rebecca Resor (Bay St. Louis, MS) paces USMMA and ranks fifth in the Landmark Conference with 8.3 rebounds per game. VanDerWal is seventh in the circuit, hitting 1.5 three-pointers per game in 2013-14. As a team, the Mariners top the league in rebounds per game and rebounding margin at 47.9 and +7.9, respectively.
Busy Schedule... Starting with the Mariners clash against the Dolphins, USMMA will play four games in six days. Merchant Marine will be home for its next three games, which includes a showdown against service Academy rival Coast Guard.
As Simple as Shooting Percentage... Merchant Marine is 4-1 this season when compiling a better field goal percentage than their opponent. The Mariners are also a perfect 3-0 on the season when eclipsing the 40 percent mark from the field.
Landmark Conference Notebook... Moravian knocked off Scranton, 66-65, leaving no team undefeated in league play. The Royals remain in first at 8-1 with both Catholic and Moravian perched at 7-1. Drew and Susquehanna re currently dead locked for the final playoff spot at 4-4.
Scouting the Dolphins... Kelly Fraser is unquestionable the leader of the Mount St. Vincent squad, averaging 18.4 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. The Dolphins have played well at home this season, posting a 10-1 record inside the Peter Jay Sharp Center.
