Setting the Scene...
The USMMA women's basketball team heads to Washington, DC Saturday evening for a Landmark Conference clash against Catholic.  The Mariners will be looking to rebound from a 47-32 setback against Drew in their last outing.  The Cardinals have won 11-of-12 and are one-half game behind first-place Scranton in the Landmark Conference standings.

Series History...
Catholic leads the all-time series against Merchant Marine, 10-3, including a 63-53 decision earlier this year.  The Mariners last defeated the Cardinals in the 2009-10 season.  In this season's meeting in Kings Point Demi VanDerWal (Springfield, IL) totaled 21 points and seven rebounds while the Mariners had a 57-35 advantage in the rebounding department.

Conference Rankings...
Rebecca Resor (Bay St. Louis, MS) paces USMMA and ranks fifth in the Landmark Conference with 8.4 rebounds per game.  VanDerWal is sixth in the circuit, hitting 1.6 three-pointers per game in 2013-14.  As a team, the Mariners top the league in rebounds per game and rebounding margin at 48.2 and +9.2, respectively.

Busy Schedule...
After Saturday's clash with the Cardinals, the Mariners will play four games in seven days, including three at O'Hara Hall.  During that stretch, USMMA will square-off with arch rival Coast Guard as well as conference foes Goucher and Moravian.

As Simple as Shooting Percentage...
Merchant Marine is 4-1 this season when compiling a better field goal percentage than their opponent.  The Mariners are also a perfect 3-0 on the season when eclipsing the 40 percent mark from the field.

Landmark Conference Notebook...
Moravian knocked off Scranton, 66-65, leaving no team undefeated in league play.  The Royals remain in first at 7-1 with both Catholic and Moravian perched at 6-1.  Drew currently occupies the final playoff spot with a 4-3 record as the Rangers are scheduled to play fifth-place Susquehanna on Saturday.

Scouting the Cardinals...
Emily Grabiak is the Cardinals leading scorer with 16.8 points per game.  She also ranks third in the Landmark Conference, pulling down 8.7 rebounds per game.  Catholic also boasts the statistically second-best offense and defense in the league.
