Kings Point, NY - The USMMA women's basketball team was upended by the Juniata Eagles, 88-35, Saturday afternoon. Rachel Wehlburg (Herndon, VA) anchored the Mariners with a team high 13 points and added seven rebounds. Freshman Julie Mall (Littlestown, PA) notched a game high nine reounds to go along with two assists and two steals. Paige Dennison paced the Eagles with 26 points on 12-of-18 shooting as the visitors finished the afternoon 33-of-61 (54.1%) from the floor.
Merchant Marine (4-11, 1-6 Landmark) struggled early as a Wehlburg jumper got the Mariners on the scoreboard for the first time 6:58 into the contest. Rebecca Resor (Bay St. Louis, MS) posted six points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
Juniata (9-8, 2-4 Landmark) forced 26 turnovers as Kate McDonald had 10 steals as well as 18 points and six rebounds. The Eagles were 50 percent from three-point range and 76.2 percent at the free throw line. Juniata led from wire-to-wire, closing the day with 16 fast break points and 29 points off of turnovers.
