Setting the Scene...
The USMMA women's basketball team wraps up a three-game home stand Wednesday night as Scranton comes to O'Hara Hall for a 7:00 pm tip-off.  The Mariners most recently suffered a 63-53 loss at the hands of Catholic.  Scranton is the hottest team in the conference, riding a nine-game winning streak into Kings Point after a 75-57 decision over Juniata on Saturday.

Series History...
Scranton is a perfect 14-0 all-time against the Mariners, including a 77-44 victory in December.  Kelsey Hofmann (Adel, IA) paced the USMMA offense in that game with 10 points.  Merchant Marine outrebounded the Royals, 40-31, in that game but also committed 32 turnovers in the loss.

VanDerWal Posts Season High...
Demi VanDerWal (Springfield, IL) racked up a season high 21 points in the Mariners last game against Catholic.  The junior guard leads Merchant Marine with 13.1 points per game and has seven double digit performances this season.  VanDerWal currently sits at 693 career points and is on pace to become just the fifth member of USMMA's 1,000 point club.

Rebounding Advantage...
Merchant Marine leads the Landmark Conference in rebounding with 51.0 boards per game.  The Mariners dominated the glass against Catholic and finished with a 57-35 edge.  USMMA also ranks ninth in NCAA Division III with a margin of +13.2 rebounds per game.

Taking Charity...
The Mariners have three starters ranked in the top-10 in the Landmark Conference in free throw percentage in 2013-14.  Resor, VanDerWal, and Kelsey Hofmann (Adel, IA) sit eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively, in the rankings.  All three members of the trio are shooting at least 78 percent at the charity stripe this season.

Landmark Conference Notebook...
Moravian, Scranton, and Catholic all boast winning percentages over .750 this season and are perfect in league contests.  Moravian is 12-2 on the year and received votes in the latest USA Today National Coaches' Poll.

Scouting the Royals...
Meredith Mesaris ranks third in the Landmark Conference with 18.2 points per game.  Scranton is shooting 75 percent from the free throw line this year and has won five straight games by double digits.

The Mariners will play next Saturday afternoon on the road against Susquehanna.
