Setting the Scene...
The USMMA women's basketball team returns to O'Hara Hall Tuesday night for a showdown with New Jersey City University.  The Mariners will be looking to snap a three-game slide after winning their season opener.  Merchant Marine was nipped 43-42 in the final seconds against Landmark Conference rival Goucher on Saturday.  NJCU fell at home to Richard Stockton, 68-64, Saturday afternoon.

Series History...
Merchant Marine is 2-0 all-time against the Gothic Knights.  The Mariners won last season's meeting, 64-45, behind 24 points from Tamara Kaileh and 13 rebounds from Rebecca Resor.  The victory also gave Head Coach Matt Dempsey his 300th career victory.

Leading the Nation...
Merchant Marine currently leads all of NCAA Division III with a rebounding margin of +23.0.  USMMA has pulled down at least 50 rebounds in all four games this season, including back-to-back outings of over 60 rebounds.  Rebecca Resor (Bay St. Louis, MS) anchors the team with 10.5 rebounds per game while senior Demi VanDerWal (Springfield, IL) has 8.8 boards per game and freshman Julie Mall (Littlestown, PA) is averaging 8.5 rebounds.

Comeback Thwarted in Final Seconds...
The Mariners pulled ahead of Goucher with 30 seconds remaining after closing a nine point deficit at the 3:58 mark.  However, the Gophers made a layup with three seconds remaining to claim the one-point Landmark Conference victory.

Spreading the Wealth...
USMMA had eight different players score against Goucher Saturday night.  Kristina Walz (Monona, IA) dropped 20 points and added 10 rebounds in the loss.  Three freshmen cracked the scoreboard in Kelsey Hofmann (Adel, IA), Julie Mall (Littlestown, PA), and Rachel Wehlburg (Herndon, VA).

Landmark Conference Notebook...
Catholic, Goucher, Moravian, and Scranton all picked up a victory on the first Saturday of Landmark Conference play.  Moravian leads the overall standings with a 6-1 record and knocked off Juniata last weekend.

Scouting the Gothic Knights...
Ashley Vazquez leads NJCU with 15.1 points per game while Kiana Briggs is averaging 11.7 points.  Bria Smith is the squad's top rebounder with 11.1 rebounds per game.
