Merchant Marine Hosts #17 Catholic Saturday at 4:00 PM

Setting the Scene... The United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (7-9, 1-7) will take on the nationally ranked Cardinals of Catholic University of America (17-1, 6-1) Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM in Kings Point, NY.  Catholic enters the contest winners of three in-a-row, having their only defeat of the year come at the hands of Landmark Conference-leading Moravian.  Merchant Marine has hit a rough patch in their schedule as of late, dropping five of their last six contests as they prepare to face #17 Catholic.

Series History...
USMMA is 3-8 all-time against the Cardinals, last defeating them by a score of 70-59 during the 2007-08 season.  Earlier this year, CUA topped the Mariners 67-30 in Washington, D.C.

Scouting the Cardinals...
Catholic has a pair of players averaging double-figures with seniors Jill Woerner and Katrina Owunna putting up 17.6 and 10.2 points per game respectively.  Woerner currently sits second in the Landmark Conference in points per game and fifth in field goal percentage (45.2%) while Owunna ranks fifth in rebounds per game averaging nine boards a contest.  

Stealing the Show...
Senior captain Roshenda Josephs leads the Landmark Conference in steals per game, averaging 4.0 on the season.  She's currently ranked 15th on the NCAA leaderboards and sits second on Merchant Marine's all-time career steals list with 213.  Josephs is on pace to break USMMA's single season steals record of 91, totaling 64 on the year with nine games remaining.

Re
sor Sharp... Sophomore forward Rebecca Resor recorded her team-leading fourth double-double of the season against Drew, scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the loss.  She leads Merchant Marine in 10+ rebound games, totaling seven this season.
