USMMA Returns Home to Face Susquehanna

Setting the Scene... The United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (6-5, 1-3) will take on the Crusaders of Susquehanna University (5-9, 0-3) Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM in Kings Point, NY.  Susquehanna comes into the contest losing two in a row and seeking their first conference victory of the season.  Merchant Marine is coming off of a road loss to nationally ranked and undefeated conference opponent Catholic.

Series History... USMMA is 5-6 all-time against Susquehanna.  The Mariners beat the Crusaders twice last season, and were led in scoring both times by Tamara Kaileh who put up 17 and 16 points in each contest.

Scouting the Crusaders... Sophomore guard Jonaida Williams currently leads the Landmark Conference in three-point field goal percentage (52.9%) and is third in overall field goal percentage (50.8%).  Senior forward Gina Palazza currently ranks fourth in the conference in rebounds per game averaging 9.2.

Senior Scorers... Senior captains Tamara Kaileh (12.3 PPG) and Roshenda Josephs (9.9 PPG) have been the most consistent scoring threats for the Mariners, tallying 10 points or more in a combined 14 games.  Josephs is coming off of her second double-double of the season and also leads the Landmark Conference in steals per game, averaging 3.8 on the season.

Creating Chances... Merchant Marine is 6-0 this season when forcing 20 or more turnovers in a game and 5-0 when they turn the ball over less than their opposition.

Getting into the 60's... USMMA is 4-0 when they score over 60 points and 2-5 when five when they fail to reach the 60 point plateau.

Holding the Lead... The Mariners are 5-0 when holding a lead with five minutes remaining in the second half and 1-5 when trailing with five minutes left to play.
