USMMA Squares-Off Against Moravian and Scranton this Weekend

Setting the Scene... The Mariners (4-1, 1-0) bounced back Wednesday night with a road win against the City College of New York.  They take a 4-1 overall record heading into three straight tough road games against Landmark Conference opponents Moravian (7-0, 1-0) and Scranton (6-1, 1-0) as well as a matchup against Division-I Army on Dec. 13.

Series History... USMMA is 3-7 all-time against Moravian and 0-11 all-time against Scranton. The last time Merchant Marine defeated the Greyhounds was a 78-69 overtime victory in the 2008-09 season. 

Scouting the Greyhounds... Moravian comes into Saturday's matchup with a perfect 7-0 record and a conference win over Juniata.  Sophomore forward Alexis Wright is currently second in the Landmark Conference averaging 20 points per game and leading the conference in rebounds per game with 13.9.

Scouting the Royals... Scranton enters this weekend with a 6-1 record, and a conference win over Susquehanna.  Sophomore forward Meredith Mesaris is currently leading the Landmark Conference in points per game, field goal percentage, and three point percentage, averaging 24.3, .544, .545 respectively.  

A-"Shendi"-ng the Leaderboards... Senior captain Roshenda Josephs (Culpeper, VA) currently leads the Mariners in scoring with 12.4 points per game, and in total steals with 20. She currently leads the Landmark Conference with 4.0 steals per game. 

"Resor" Sharp... Sophomore forward Rebecca Resor (Bay St. Louis, MS) recorded her second double-double in as many games  on Wednesday night, making her first start of the season, scoring 14 points and nabbing 16 rebounds in a victory over CCNY.

"Marlee" and the Mariners...  Freshman guard Marlee Chovich (Lake Oswego, OR) has made an immediate impact in her first year with Merchant Marine averaging 28.4 minutes and 8.4 points off the bench.

Geographically Diverse... USMMA sports a 12 player roster with each member hailing from a different state.  This makes USMMA the only team in NCAA Division-III basketball without having players from duplicate home states.  States Represented: (AZ, CA, CO, CT, IA, IL, MS, NJ, NY, OR, PA, VA)
