Women’s basketball ranked 8th in Landmark pre-season poll

KINGS POINT, N.Y. -- The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's team was ranked eighth in the pre-season poll of coaches and sports information directors in the Landmark Conference.

The Mariners (15 points) have 10 players returning from a 7-18 campaign highlighted by Tamara Kaileh who was the team's top scorer in the conference with more than 13 points per game. Forward Alicen Heinrich is expected to provide stability to the front court.

Defending champion Juniata College (92) was picked to win the championship for the second year in a row. The Eagles were followed by Catholic University (75), the University of Scranton (72), Moravian College (62) and Susquehanna University (45). Rounding out the poll were Drew University (36 points) and Goucher College (24).

The Mariners will open their season, hosting Berkeley at Liebertz Gymnasium on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
