Pistol Mariners team gives Army run for money in dual match
West Point, NY - The United States Merchant Marine Academy pistol team put for a solid effort, but fell short of triumph over the weekend at Army, losing to the Black Knights, 6,348-5,922.
Despite each Black Knight recorded a score of 500, the Mariners suffered a tough loss in the team air event (2,211-2,073) with freshman Shawn Prentice missing all of his targets. Josh Cox led the way for Kings Point with a score of 550. Jason Berger followed suit with a 527, while Michael Budesa tallied a 500.
Prentice came on strong in the free event with a score of 478, but the Mariners fell 148 points shy of claiming the team victory, 2,050-1,902. The story was the same in the standard. Cox scored a team-best 534 in Kings Point's 2,087-1,947 loss.
USMMA returns to West Point over the weekend for sectionals.
