On Tuesday, the Skyline Conference announced that a total of 73 student-athletes have been selected to the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Teams for the Fall 2016 seasons. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy had four student-athletes – one from each fall team that participates in the Skyline Conference – honored on the list.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team wrapped up the successful 2016 season on Saturday at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Meet, hosted by Rowan University. The Mariners came in 27th place out of the 44 teams that competed at the event, and finished ahead of all of the Skyline Conference opponents that raced as well.
On Saturday, the USMMA men’s cross country team captured second place in the highly-competitive ECAC Championship Meet, held at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome up in Ulster County. The Mariners’ top five finishers recorded 62 points for the team, which was behind only NYU’s 35 points.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team won the 2016 Skyline Conference Championship Meet on Saturday! Head coach David Lawrence Jr.’s squad came in first place with a total of 39 points, which was the fewest out of the 10-team field. Hosts St. Joseph’s of Long Island came in second place with a team score of 68 points in the event, which was held at the Broadway Avenue Park out in Suffolk County.
Earlier this week, the Landmark Conference announced the All-Decade Team for men’s cross country and former U.S. Merchant Marine Academy great Keith Wagner ’09 was selected by the current conference coaches as a part of the team.
The Skyline Conference announced on Tuesday that USMMA sophomore Connor Cole (Alpharetta, Ga.) was selected as the conference’s Runner of the Week for men’s cross country. The honor comes after Cole helped lead the Mariners to a seventh place finish at the James Earley Invitational, which included a team victory over arch-rival Coast Guard this past weekend.
On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s and women’s cross country teams travelled to Western Massachusetts to take part in the James Early Invitational. The men’s squad had an impressive finish as they came in seventh place out of 41 teams, while the women placed 23rd out of 41 teams.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team took part in the Ninth Annual MSMC Knight Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Skyline Conference rival Mount St. Mary College. The Mariners came in fifth place out of 18 schools that scored at the event, as they notched 132 points.
The USMMA men’s and women’s cross country team came competed in the Purple Valley Classic, hosted by Williams College earlier on Saturday. The Mariner men came in 15th place at the event, while the women’s squad placed 20th.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team placed fourth in the Bard Raptors Invitational up in Dutchess County on Saturday out of a field of 20 teams. The Mariners totaled 110 points and were just two points behind fellow Skyline Conference rival Mount St. Mary who came in second place. Skyline powerhouse St. Joseph’s (L.I.) won the meet with 84 points.
On Thursday, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy fourth-year head men’s & women’s cross country coach David Lawrence Jr. announced the schedule for the upcoming 2016 season. This year’s campaign will consist of eight meets ranging from early September until mid-November.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy held its 2016 Awards Convocation on Friday morning at the Ackerman Auditorium as part of Graduation Weekend festivities. Four major athletic award winners were announced during the ceremony – the Male and Female Athletes of the Year as well as the two Coaches of the Year – along with a number of other athletic awards and honors.
The Landmark Conference announced the Fall 2015 Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday and 14 Mariners were recognized for their outstanding performance in the classroom. The USMMA student-athletes made up the 379 from around the Landmark that earned the accolades.
The Landmark Conference has named 51 student-athletes to the All-Sportsmanship Team. The All-Sportsmanship Team includes one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team. For women’s cross country, USMMA freshman Connor Cole (Alpharetta, Ga.) was selected to the team.
The USMMA men’s cross country team took eighth place at the 2015 ECAC DIII Championship Meet on Saturday, hosted by Williams College. The Mariners’ top five runners scored 237 points with their placements in the 8K run. Ahmerst claimed the title for the second time in four years with 53 points.
The USMMA men’s cross country team hosted the eight other Landmark Conference squads for the 2015 Landmark Championship Meet on a beautiful fall day on Saturday at Sunken Meadow State Park out in Suffolk County. The Mariners came in third place at the event with 87 points behind back-to-back conference champions Elizabethtown (16 points) and runner-up Susquehanna (74 points).
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will host the 2015 Landmark Cross Country Championship on Saturday, October 31st. All nine Landmark teams will travel to Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, N.Y. to compete for the first title of the fall season. The men's race is set to start at 11:00 a.m. followed by the women's race at noon.

USMMA freshman Connor Cole (Alpharetta, Ga.) was named the Landmark Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Monday. This is the second time this season that Cole has earned this distinct honor, as he was also AOTW back on Sept. 21.

On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's and women's cross country teams opened the season down in Kentucky at the Centre College Invitational. The Mariner men placed fifth in a field of nine teams with a total score of 98 points, while the women's squad also came in fifth with 149 points.

The Mariners are slated to compete in five regular season events throughout September and October in preparation for three championship meets to close out the season.
On Friday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Athletics Department announced that it has accepted an invitation to join the Skyline Conference, effective beginning with the 2016-17 athletic seasons. The action was voted on by the Skyline Conference Presidents’ Council and was officially approved this week.
The USMMA men’s cross country team went up to Genesee Valley Park in Upstate New York this weekend with a small team of five freshman to compete in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals, hosted by Rochester University. The Mariners placed 34th out of 41 full teams at the event.
