OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2018) – The USMMA men's cross country team ran at the NYIT Invitational this morning and placed fourth out of a total of eight teams at the event, first among DIII schools and ahead of three Division II teams. The Mariners tallied 112 points, behind Division I Fordham (37), hosts NYIT (51) and Pace University (62).
The Mariners were led by freshmen brothers Andrew and Anthony Suarez (East Meadow, N.Y.), who placed 20th (28:06.78) and 23rd (29:03.44), respectively, in the 8K race. Sophomore Michael Cahill (Medford, Mass.) and freshman Breannan Shute (Annapolis, Md.) finished back-to-back, with Cahill coming in 25th in 29:05.33 and Shute placing 26th in 29:10.60. Freshman Justin Gagnon (Cornwall, N.Y.) rounded out Merchant Marine's top-five scorers with a 28th place finish in 29:13.81.

The Mariners are right back in action tomorrow, Sept. 16, when they take part in the Queensborough Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. First race is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
