ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2017) – On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team sent six freshmen runners to compete at the Bard Raptors Invitational on the campus of Bard College. The Mariners came in seventh place out of the field of 20 teams with a total of 183 points.
Freshman Patrick Porch (Halstead, Kan.) was the first Mariner to cross the finish line, as he came in 13th place with a time of 28:08 in the 8K race, while classmate Gabriel Tapia-Suarez (Leonia, N.J.) followed in 24th in 29:02. Fellow plebes Michael Cahill (Medford, Mass.) and Anthony Lund (Rathdrum, Idaho) placed 39th (28 points, 29:43) and 56th (53 points, 30:33), respectively. Rounding out the Mariner scorers was freshman Billy McCord (Sylvania, Ga.), who came in 59th place (55 points) with a time of 30:38, while classmate David Aranda (Ridgecrest, Calif.) placed 67th in 31:05.

The Mariners are finished competing in the month of September and will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they travel down to Towson, Md., to compete in former Landmark Conference opponent Goucher's Goucher Classic. Action is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. and the women will run a 6K race.
