MILTON, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2016) – On Saturday, the USMMA men's cross country team captured second place in the highly-competitive ECAC Championship Meet, held at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome up in Ulster County. The Mariners' top five finishers recorded 62 points for the team, which was behind only NYU's 35 points.
The second place finish was the best at the ECAC Championship Meet in the history of the program, and, likewise, the 62 team points scored was the lowest score by the Mariners at this event in Academy history.
Five Mariners found their way onto the All-ECAC Team, led by sophomore Connor Cole (Alpharetta, Ga.), who came in third place in the 8K run with a time of 27:18.3. The third-place finish was the school's highest individual finish ever at the ECACs.
Junior Austin MacElrevey (Lewes, Del.) was the next Mariner to finish, coming in 10th place in 27:41.3. Seniors Cameron Green (Lancaster, Calif.) and Daniel Wolfer (Hebron, Ky.) finished back-to-back in 14th (28:09.2) and 15th (28:12.8) place, respectively.
Senior Conor McWeeney (Lake Oswego, Ore.) rounded out the scorers for Merchant Marine, as he crossed in 28:35.0, which was good for 20th place. Freshman Michael Dobkowski (Merrick, N.Y.) was the last Mariner to finish the race, coming in 35th place with a time of 29:18.5.
Up next, Merchant Marine will participate in the NCAA Regional Meet next Saturday, Nov. 12, hosted by Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. For more information on the event, click here.
