Cole Named Skyline Runner Of The Week After Earley Invite And Win Over Coast Guard

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2016) – The Skyline Conference announced on Tuesday that USMMA sophomore Connor Cole (Alpharetta, Ga.) was selected as the conference's Runner of the Week for men's cross country. The honor comes after Cole helped lead the Mariners to a seventh place finish at the James Earley Invitational this past weekend, which included a team victory over arch-rival Coast Guard.

Cole placed 23rd out of the 432 runners in the men's 8K race up in Westfield, Mass. (hosted by Westfield State). He crossed the finish line with a time of 26:22.22 and his 23 points went towards the overall team total of 230 points, which was good for seventh place team finish out of 41 teams.

Head-to-head against the Bears, the Mariners captured a 26-29 victory. It was the first time in the history of the USMMA men's cross country program that the Mariners defeated Coast Guard. Merchant Marine earned the team point towards the 2016-17 Superintendents' Trophy, which Coast Guard currently leads 3.5-2.5.
